COLO SPRGS, CO (Oct. 17, 2022) Rylan Kissell, Gavin Barnick, and Braden Peiser won the 2022 World Champion title in the Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team event in Cairo, Egypt, Oct. 16.
The American junior team earned their medals after beating the Ukrainian team in the final shoot-off.
The trio shot in two qualification rounds in order to make it to the finals, and ultimately the gold medal match.
Kissell shoots on the rifle team at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and has earned two more medals at the 2022 World Championship. He and Katie Zaun, a Texas Christian University athlete, earned bronze in both the Junior 50m Rifle 3 Positions Mixed Team event as well as the Junior 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event.
Gavin, also an athlete at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, placed fourth overall in the Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Individual event.
Peiser is just seventeen years old but has made his way in the international shooting scene. At the 2021 Junior World Championship, the rifle athlete earned a silver medal in the 50m Rifle Prone Mixed Team event and a bronze medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men’s Team event.
The junior rifle athletes have a total of four medals at the 2022 World Championship as of Oct. 17:
Gold: Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions, Rylan Kissell, Gavin Barnick, and Braden Peiser
Bronze: Junior Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions, Griffin Lake
Bronze: Junior 50m Rifle 3 Positions Mixed Team, Rylan Kissell and Katie Zaun
Junior 50m Rifle Prone Mixed Team, Rylan Kissell and Katie Zaun
The open age category athletes have a total of three medals thus far:
Gold: Women’s 10m Air Rifle, Alison Weisz
Silver: Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team, Alison Weisz, Mary Tucker, and Sagen Maddalena
Bronze: Women’s 50m Prone Rifle, Mary Tucker
